What is low melt yarn?

Low melt yarn, also known as low melting point yarn, is a type of specialty yarn that is designed to melt at a lower temperature compared to traditional yarns. This unique characteristic makes low melt yarn suitable for applications where bonding or fusion of fibers or fabrics is desired at lower temperatures.

During the manufacturing process, these thermoplastic materials are spun into yarn form and then treated to lower their melting temperature. As a result, when exposed to heat, the yarns soften and fuse with other materials, creating strong and durable bonds.

Low melt yarns find a variety of applications in industries such as textile manufacturing, apparel production, footwear, technical textiles, and industrial applications. They are commonly used for seam sealing, bonding fabrics together, laminating materials, and reinforcing textiles. Additionally, low melt yarns are often used in combination with other materials, such as hot melt adhesives, to achieve specific performance requirements.

Overall, low melt yarns offer unique bonding capabilities at lower temperatures, making them valuable for a wide range of applications where traditional bonding methods may not be suitable or where lower temperature bonding is desired.
