How to Properly Handle Hot Melt Yarn to Avoid Over-Melting

To properly handle fusible yarn to avoid excessive melting, consider the following key factors:

Temperature Control: The melting temperature of fusible yarn typically ranges from 130°C to 250°C. Precise control of the heating temperature is necessary to prevent excessive melting. A temperature that is too high may cause the yarn to melt excessively, while a temperature that is too low may not achieve the desired bonding effect.

Heating Time: The duration of heating for fusible yarn is also crucial. Overheating can lead to excessive melting of the yarn, while insufficient heating may not allow for adequate melting. The optimal heating time should be determined based on the specific type of fusible yarn and the application requirements.

Pressure Control: Appropriate pressure during the melting process aids in the contact and adhesion between the fusible yarn and the material being bonded. However, excessive pressure may lead to over-melting or deformation of the yarn.

Cooling Process: After bonding, fusible yarn requires a proper cooling period to solidify. Rapid cooling may generate internal stresses, leading to weak bonding or a decrease in yarn performance.

Process Parameters: In automated melting processes, such as the preparation of automated fiber placement prepreg, process parameters like fiber tension, fiber draw speed, resin viscosity, and film thickness affect the spreading width and stability of the fiber bundle. For instance, increasing fiber tension, fiber draw speed, resin viscosity, and film thickness tend to increase the spreading width of the fiber bundle, while fiber draw speed has the most significant impact on the stability of the fiber bundle's width.

Equipment and Tools: Using the appropriate melting equipment and tools, such as a hot melt gun or automated melting machinery, can more accurately control the melting process, thus preventing excessive melting.

Material Properties: Different fusible yarn materials may have different melting temperatures and behaviors, so it is necessary to understand the characteristics of the material before processing.

By considering these factors comprehensively and making appropriate adjustments based on specific application scenarios and material properties, excessive melting of fusible yarn during processing can be effectively avoided.
